In Trentino a 'maso' is a typical rural construction where life has a particular pace and where the culture of farming is deeply rooted in the ground. This is also the case of MASO MARTIS. In the late 19th century it was the Vintage House, the home of the 'masadori', the peasant family who worked on the land for their nobleman. The estate is in Martignano, at the foot of Mount Calisio, in a small village above the city of Trento. It lies 450 m. a.s.l. in a splendid position kissed by the sun where nature, skill, passion and dedication blend and pulsate in the wines produced, authentic jewels of Trentino. In the eighties the Stelzer family bought the maso and the old farmhouse was altered and refurbished. The old stables were turned into a cellar for the maturarion of wines and sparkling wines and the barns became the premises for wine making and bottling, drying the grapes, a laboratory and offices. The loft where the hay used to be stored was made into an apartment. The land was cleared of the existing cultivations by sheer hard work and in 1986 an area of twelve hectares was entirely planted with grapevines.

Chardonnay - Pinot nero
A supreme wine made from the finest selection of Pinot Nero grapes, with Maso Martis providing the perfect environment. It is aged with its lees for four years to bring out the body and bouquet
Chardonnay C.L. 130 and Pinot Nero grafted on Kober 5BB - distance between vines: 3.2m. x 0.8m. - Pergola trentina system.
Short pruning - organic fertiliser in alternate years- controlled grass between vines- irrigation by rainwater as required.
The grapes are hand picked into baskets. The Chardonnay and the Pinot Nero grapes are kept separate and crushed gently. After fermentation and separation from the lees, the Chardonnay and Pinot Nero are mixed in 30:70 proportion. The wine is then stored partly in steel tanks and partly in barrels, and is bottled the following spring with the addition of selected yeasts. After a period of 36 months on the lees the remuage is carried out manually and the wine is then disgorged and bottled.
